(Who is God?-Part 3)
It’s one thing to believe that God sees all of time at once.
It’s another to realize that He sees you—right now.
Every thought. Every struggle. Every moment, seen and unseen.
The God who holds the universe in His hands also knows you more deeply than anyone ever could.
We’ve already seen that God is not bound by time —that He sees every moment from beginning to end all at once.
👉 (If you missed it, you can read that here: [What Existed Before Time Began?])
No event, person, place, or thing escapes His gaze. He can see everything from the beginning to the end of time instantly and simultaneously. Yet, He is not only concerned with the big picture but also with individual lives on a personal level.
O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. – Psalm 139:1-4
This concept can be both comforting and frightening, depending on how we choose to live our lives. If we aim to honor God and live to better those we love and care for, God is always there to offer comfort and peace, standing beside us to ease our burdens and carry our loads.
But if we live only for ourselves and hide behind closed doors, thinking we’re acting in secret, God is there too. And it breaks God’s heart when His creations turn away from Him.
In Proverbs, Solomon, tells us,
The eyes of the Lord are in every place,
keeping watch on the evil and the good. -Proverbs 15:3
There is no place or time where He does not see, and He is always present. He revealed Himself to Moses as I Am (Exodus 3:14). Generations later, Jesus told the Jews when they questioned His authority over death, “before Abraham was, I am.” (John 8:58) This name signifies eternal, independent existence outside of time and space.
It’s humbling to think about the awe-inspiring God who created and governs everything across the universe, and we might wonder why He cares about the details of our lives. But He does!
He is keenly aware of every struggle, difficulty, and accomplishment, and nothing falls outside of His realm of knowledge and understanding. Every detail of every situation you encounter is clearly on His mind as you live each day.
He determines the number of the stars;
he gives to all of them their names.
Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;
his understanding is beyond measure. -Psalm 147:4-5
The Milky Way galaxy is estimated to contain between 200 and 400 billion stars. Imagine, every star having its own name, and He knows them all. Yet, we are much more valuable to Him than stars, and He knows each of us and cares for us. Jesus, speaking to the crowds about God’s provision and care, encourages us to trust Him.
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. -Matthew 10:29-30
