Earlier this year, I went through a difficult set of circumstances and am still trying to navigate the course of my life in the wake of that trial. But through it all, my faith never faltered.
God used my church, family, and friends to teach me that He has my back.
This morning, I read the following promise of God found in Psalms 37:23-24 (NIV) that resonates with my experience going through difficulties in my life.
The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him;
though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.
But what does it mean to delight in the lord?
To “delight in the Lord” according to the Bible means to take great pleasure and joy in having a close, personal relationship with God. This concept is often associated with the idea of finding satisfaction, fulfillment, and contentment in God’s presence, His character, and His ways. Here are some aspects of what it means to delight in the Lord:
- Trust and Obedience: Delighting in the Lord involves trusting in His wisdom, goodness, and timing, and living in obedience to His commandments.
- Meditation on Scripture: It includes spending time reading, studying, and meditating on the Bible, finding joy in His Word.
- Worship and Praise: Engaging in worship and praise, expressing love and reverence for God, is a significant part of delighting in Him.
- Prayer and Communication: Maintaining an ongoing conversation with God through prayer, seeking His guidance, and expressing gratitude.
- Seeking His Presence: Actively seeking to experience God’s presence in everyday life, being aware of His influence and blessings.
- Finding Joy in His Plans: Taking pleasure in aligning one’s desires and life plans with God’s will, trusting that His plans are for our good.
A key Bible verse that encapsulates this idea is Psalm 37:4: “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” This verse suggests that when one truly delights in God, their desires will align with His will, and He will fulfill them accordingly.
It is a desire of mine to increase my delight in the Lord.
I pray that all who read this will likewise join in this effort and leave the cares of this world in His capable hands.
The place to begin is by entering into a personal relationship with Jesus.
You can do that right now by praying to God, confessing your sins to Him, repenting, and turning to Him.
Salvation is free, a gift from God that Jesus death and resurrection made possible.
Jesus willingly gave His life to pay the penalty for sin, which is death, so that you can live and enjoy an eternal relationship with God.
It is only by God’s grace through faith, that we can receive this gift. It is not earned or deserved by any actions or merit of humankind.
Praise God for His generosity, mercy, and grace.
May God bless you in all that you do.
