Thirty-four years ago, I broke my neck. Now, I live with numerous restrictions, trapped in a body that no longer serves me.
I cannot move my legs, and my arms have limited function and flexibility. I can’t move my fingers and thumbs, making my hands useless for all but a few basic tasks. I rely on caregivers for my most basic needs, including getting in and out of bed.
Every day, I live in constant pain with little relief.
I can’t imagine enduring these circumstances without Jesus.
Without Christ, my life would be hopeless, devoid of joy and peace.
But God revealed Himself to me in my youth and has continually reinforced my faith in His saving grace. He taught me about eternity and the fragile, temporary life we experience now. He showed me His power, sovereignly orchestrating everything in our world.
I don’t always understand why things happen as they do or why we face certain struggles.
We live in a world in turmoil, a nation in strife, constantly bickering and fighting over what is right and wrong. Families are torn apart by individuals looking out for themselves, failing to see the effects of their decisions on others—or perhaps not caring at all. Indulgence, glorification, and self-acceptance seem to drive our societies in this wicked age.
But God created us for more than this.
He made us with eternity in His sights and a purpose that far exceeds our current worldview. He made us for community and unashamed unity in worship, drawing from diverse personalities and people groups.
This world’s timeline is finite, and the end is drawing near.
My hope resides in God.
God’s plan to right every wrong and make things new has never been in doubt. From Creation to the end of times, all things have been determined and will run their course, set in place by God before the world began.
My freedom is coming, and the joy and peace I have today prepare me for that day as I hope in Him. I trust Him for the grace I need to endure each day. Though I fail and fall apart, I trust His comforting hand. I seek to glorify God in all I do, including trusting Him when I fail.
Based on the words of the Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:11-12, I know that God will supply all that I need according to His riches in Christ Jesus. I know that there may be times of hunger and need ahead, but I can be content in all circumstances because of Jesus. I can do all things because He strengthens me.
I choose to take refuge in God.
He is abundantly good and works for those who take refuge in Him (Psalm 31:19). Because Jesus lives, my hope is alive and well.
I encourage you to take refuge in God.
He cares for you and will help you in your time of need. Secure your eternal salvation by trusting in Jesus for the forgiveness of sin. Repent, and turn to Him. Live with the hope, peace, and joy that only He can give.
