Isa 40:28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.

Before the earth, the universe and all creation, God existed.  The Lord is an everlasting God.  He is outside of and oversees His creation while always being involved in and upholding the universe with His awesome and unlimited power.  He does not rest; He never faints and does not grow weary.  His understanding is unsearchable.  There is nothing He does not know or understand.  He is outside of time and space giving Him the ability to see all of creation simultaneously from beginning to end; past, present, and future.  He not only sees all, He also knows everything intimately and understands everything that can possibly be known about every atom and molecule of physical matter and every relational and emotional interaction of every living being ever created.  He understands everything there is to know about the spiritual realm and every interaction between the physical and spiritual realities.

He not only knows about all things, He also cares about all things.  He cares about you and me.  He cares about what we go through and grieves along with us, side by side with us to comfort us when we go through trials and are suffering.  He orchestrates all things and everything that happens is allowed by Him according to His perfect master plan.  It grieves Him to see us in our pain, but He understands, beyond our limited knowledge, why He has allowed it and is able, from His eternal perspective, to see the whole completed picture.  And it is glorious!

He not only understands what we go through from a theoretical perspective, He knows experientially through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus what it is like to suffer, to feel from a human perspective all the emotions we experience during our lifetimes and is able to understand our pain and rejoice with us in our joy.

In light of God’s awesome nature and unsearchable understanding, let me echo the voice of the Psalmist

Ps 8:3 ¶ When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? 5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. 6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, 7 all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. 9 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

How excellent is thy name in all the earth!
